New Personally Identifying Information Standards go into effect on September 15, 2017.

Beginning September 15th, the National Consumer Assistance Plan will additionally require social security numbers and dates-of-birth (DOB) for all tenants. If full social security number is not available, full DOB will be required by credit reporting agencies (CRA).

Reporting to CRAs is a last resort in our effective process, but does allow for us to leverage all contact information and options to collect on your accounts. We report the debt when all other collection attempts fail and/or the tenant cannot be located.  The CRAs new minimum standards will apply to accounts reported with a date opened on or after September 15, 2017

In addition to new CRA requirements, we can also use your tenants’ social security number to locate them. This is called skip tracing. We can still skip trace tenants without their social security number, but it may limit the amount of contact information we have available to utilize for that tenant.

Pro Tip: Also collect emergency contact information for your tenants to increase the success of locating and collecting from tenants with outstanding balances.

Question: What if I don’t have social security numbers for my tenants?

Answer: We collect from thousands of tenants whom we do not have social security numbers for by using the best skip tracing tools available. Although CRAs will now require a *social security number, we also report unpaid rental debt to applicant screening providers and other sources that may or may not require a social security number and/or DOB. This makes it harder for these tenants to rent elsewhere before settling their outstanding balance with you.

Send us your consumers’ social security numbers and DOB so we can maximize your collections potential.

Here are the four (4) pieces of information CRAs will now require:

  1. Full Name (first name, middle name or middle initial (if available), last name, and generation code/suffix)
  2. Address
  3. Full Social Security Number
  4. Date of Birth (MMDDYYYY)

*Note: If full social security number is not available, full DOB will be required by CRAs.

How to submit this information to us:

Please submit this information in your electronic transmission to NCC. If manually submitting information, include the copy of the tenants’ applications with their respective social security numbers and DOB.
